A very elegant and well-proportioned boat, this Gib’sea 312 (cruising version) has been in current ownership for the last 20 years. Over this time, she has been cruised along the South Coast between Brighton and Devon, with the occasional outing in the “Round The Island” event in the Solent.
Well-designed by Rob Humphreys, she is an excellent compromise between a comfortable cruising boat, and one that sails well and has a competitive performance if required. Built in 1990, she has beamy proportions offering a lot of space below, which is thoughtfully laid out with 6 or 7 possible berths in 3 cabins, a full galley and a full-size chart table, as well as a separate Heads. There is plenty of wood down below, giving a warm and cosy feel and the furnishings are in good order and comfortable.
The sailing set-up is easily managed, and most of the lines feed back to the cockpit, except for the single-line reefing for the Mainsail. Genoa Roller-reefing, Lazyjacks and a stacker system on the boom make sail stowing very easy, and the Snuffer on the Spinnaker takes a lot of the headache out of handling this beautiful sail.
Much-loved, she has been well-maintained and looked-after. She had a new mast in 2020, along with standing rigging. The engine cylinder head was replaced and rebuilt in 2017. All of the instrumentation is in working order. She is for sale due to changing family circumstances, after providing us with a lot of fun. She is a well-found, sturdy boat that still performs well. She is being sold in a “sail away” state with everything that one needs.
