Description
Exquisite and Exceptional. A very rare opportunity.
Every enthusiast for Fairey Marine powerboats knows that the hard-to-find Spearfish encapsulates the advantages of a GRP hull with fabulous sea-keeping capabilities (derived from the Huntsman 31) giving a soft and dry ride. Based on the hull of the iconic wooden Huntsman 31 which was well proven in its performance, sea-keeping qualities, and appearance, this GRP hulled Fairey Spearfish which is Hull No. 2, and the first Spearfish hull completed by Fairey Marine, is an ideal weekender, a joy to the eye and in Concours condition.
Described as probably the prettiest individual Fairey ever produced, she is unique in that she was produced with a GRP hull and wooden superstructure which retains the charm of the wooden Fairey s while benefiting from the preferred "peace of mind" GRP hull.
With a new deck in 2011/12 and a more recent repaint, she really must be seen.
Powered by 2 x 210hp Ford Sabre Turbo diesels through Borg Warner 72c hydraulic direct drive gearboxes. There are two fuel tanks, a 90gal main tank plus a 50gal transom tank.
She also benefits from electric Windlass, SPQR and stainless-steel anchors, Tonneau cover and Spray hood, Bow thruster, Life raft, Chart plotter, DSC VHF and Autopilot
Her aft cockpit is ideal for entertaining, and she is perfectly capable of long passages if required. Alternatively, she is the ideal sailors boat for the Solent and turns heads wherever she goes.
Current and previous owners have maintained this boat fastidiously to keep her as original as possible ensuring desirability while also doing whatever is needed. Thus, in addition to gleaming varnish and glistening topsides, the engine blocks have electric pre-heaters when the boat is connected to shore power. These assist with winter starting and warming the engines before arrival/start-up to reduce smoke and increase engine longevity. A powerful bow thruster with its own battery system aids coming alongside helping make that a calm experience.
New teak decks were fitted in 2011/12 and subsequently re-painted this boat has for many years been dry stored out of the sunlight and washed with fresh water after salt-water enjoyment.
Brokers Comments
This fine vessel is not for the shy - she turns heads wherever she goes.
Her Cetrec autopilot did not work when the current owner purchased TARQUOL and is still not working.
As a reminder: In the late 1960s the 'plug' used to make the mould for the Spearfish was a Fairey Huntsman 31 - the high-water mark of the Fairey Marine powerboat range. Early GRP hulls were made almost as thick as the wooden hulls they replaced so by modern standards this is a very solid GRP hull. Couple that with the fabulous dry and soft ride that a Fairey Huntsman 31 has - and by extension the Fairey Spearfish - then one can understand why these boats so rarely come on the market and are so sought-after when they do. Brokers comments Tarquol is a very rare Wooden top Spearfish built with the Huntsman 31 design wooden superstructure with teak laid swept decks and the added benefit of a GRP hull.
